Step 9: Accountability = Responsibility

Last month I shared the eighth step in the Perfect Performance Success System with you, Game Day.
This month we are focusing on Step 9: Accountability.
For every individual who is getting it done and accomplishing great things there is a force at work, behind the scenes, holding them accountable to their dreams.
Step 9, Accountability, is about being responsible for your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, habits, behaviors and actions.
In 1986, Hollywood came out with the movie Hoosiers. It was based on the true story of a high school basketball team from a small town in Indiana. This small rural school had been competing with these larger schools and actually entered the 1954 season as a favorite to win the state championship.
They returned 4 starters from the previous season where they had been state finalists. Although the big schools had more kids to choose from and a greater chance to have great athletes playing for them, many of these schools were missing teamwork and accountability.
The Milan kids had been together most of their lives. They knew each other inside and out and were able to work together as a cohesive, well-oiled unit. It was as if they knew what each teammate was going to do before they did it. This allowed them to take advantage of bigger and faster teams by outsmarting them.
Each and every kid on the team felt a deep connection and responsibility to his teammates. They didn't want to let each other down so it meant more to them and as a result they gave more effort to ensure a positive outcome. They ended up beating one of the largest schools in the state at the time, Muncie Central High School, with a score of 32-30.
By being responsible for yourself and accountable for the other members of your team, you will give you and your team the greatest opportunity to create a positive outcome every time. Find a teammate to share your desired outcomes with and then help each other accomplish them.
